About the Journal

Mission, Focus, and Scope

The Integración Journal is an academic space dedicated to dialogue, convergence, and the synergy of knowledge. Published by the Directorate of Research and Social Outreach of the University of Sonsonate, its mission is to foster research that transcends disciplinary boundaries to address the complex challenges of our reality, with a special emphasis on the Central American context.

Its name, "Integración" (Integration), is no coincidence: it reflects its commitment to three fundamental axes:

  • Integration of disciplines: to promote interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches as drivers of innovation and holistic understanding.
  • Integration of theory and practice: to disseminate research that connects academic rigor with practical applications and concrete solutions for social, economic, and environmental development.
  • Integration of academia and society: to serve as a bridge for the knowledge generated in the university to positively impact the community, public policy, and the productive sector.

Focus and Thematic Scope

The journal welcomes original and unpublished manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of knowledge from an integrative perspective. To organize its multidisciplinary breadth, it is structured into three major thematic areas, while still receiving proposals that cross these boundaries transversally:

  • Society, Culture, and Human Development:
    • Social Sciences (Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science).
    • Education and Pedagogy.
    • Humanities (Philosophy, History, Literature, Arts).
    • Law and Legal Sciences.
  • Science, Technology, and Innovation:
    • Engineering and Applied Technologies.
    • Basic and Experimental Sciences.
    • Agricultural and Agro-industrial Sciences.
    • Computer Science and New Technologies.
  • Management, Economics, and Sustainability:
    • Economic and Business Sciences.
    • Public Management and Administration.
    • Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Development, and Climate Change.
    • Organizational and Labor Studies.

Priority Cross-Cutting Theme

The Integración Journal will give special value and priority for publication to manuscripts that:

  1. Address relevant problems or case studies for El Salvador and the Central American region.
  2. Present clearly interdisciplinary methodologies or theoretical frameworks.
  3. Demonstrate a clear link between research and its application in real-world contexts.

Editorial Policies

The journal operates under a full open-access model, with no charges for authors or readers. All works are published under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license, maximizing the dissemination and reuse of knowledge with proper attribution.

To ensure quality and impartiality, all submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. The journal invites researchers, professionals, and graduate students from around the world to be part of this integrated knowledge community.

Objective

To promote interdisciplinary dialogue and the integration of knowledge to address complex problems and generate a positive impact on society, with a preferential focus on the reality of Central America.

Target Audience and Community

The Integración Journal is aimed at a diverse and active community, committed not only to the generation but also to the application and dialogue of knowledge to address complex challenges, with a special interest in the reality of Central America.

Our audience is organized into two main areas:

Core Academic and Educational Community:

  • Researchers and academics (national and international) developing interdisciplinary work or seeking perspectives that transcend their field of study.
  • University professors who need updated resources, case studies, and innovative approaches to enrich their pedagogical practice.
  • Graduate students and final-year undergraduates interested in the frontiers of knowledge and a space to publish their first high-level research.

Extended and Impact Community:

  • Professionals and decision-makers from the public, private, and social organization sectors seeking evidence-based solutions, innovative analytical frameworks, and knowledge applicable to their work.
  • Community leaders and civil society actors interested in understanding, analyzing, and addressing local and regional problems from an informed and critical perspective.
  • Institutions, libraries, and documentation centers wishing to enrich their collections with a cutting-edge publication focused on the integration of knowledge.

Frequency and Publication Flow

Starting in the first semester of 2026, the Integración Journal will adopt a continuous semiannual publication model. This modern approach seeks to maximize the speed of knowledge dissemination and offer our community of readers a constant flow of high-quality content, without the delays of traditional batch publication models.

In this modality, approved articles are published individually and immediately on the journal's portal as soon as they complete and approve the entire editorial process:

  • Initial editorial review.
  • Peer review (double-blind).
  • Copyediting and layout.
  • Final author approval (galley proofs).

Each published article is assigned to one of the two semiannual issues corresponding to the current year. At the end of each semester, the issue is closed and compiled as a complete volume, remaining permanently accessible.

Publication will be organized as follows:

  • Volume X, Number 1 (Corresponding to the January - June period)
  • Volume X, Number 2 (Corresponding to the July - December period)

The Integración Journal may publish special issues dedicated to highly relevant or current topics, subject to approval by the Editorial Committee. To enrich perspectives and strengthen academic diversity, the call for special issues must ensure the participation of a significant percentage of authors external to the University of Sonsonate.

Indexing

The Integración Journal is in a strategic phase of growth and consolidation, with the clear objective of achieving the highest standards of visibility and academic impact at an international level. We are currently working proactively and systematically to meet the rigorous quality and transparency criteria required by the most influential databases.

Our roadmap focuses on:

  • Latindex Catalog 2.0
  • Inclusion in DOAJ
  • Aspirations for inclusion in Redalyc and SciELO

This indexing effort is a direct commitment to our community of authors.
