Abstract
It is based on the principles of reducing, reusing, repairing, and recycling to maintain the value of products and materials for as long as possible. It is presented as an alternative to the traditional linear economic model, which is based on the extraction, production, consumption, and disposal of resources—a model that is unsustainable because it generates a large amount of waste and environmental pollution. The main purpose of this article is to analyze the concept of circular economy, its principles, benefits, and how much is being done to implement it as part of the management of industrial, commercial, and service companies in the eastern zone of El Salvador. For this purpose, interviews were carried out with managers from different business sectors, using a qualitative approach to appreciate the scope and limitations in its implementation and expectations regarding the convenience of its adoption, as well as to identify their experiences with this model at present. Finally, the phases to implement a “circular economy model” that is adaptable to the interested companies are shared and proposed.
